Course Details

Ancillary Health Care: NQF Level 1 (Credits 134) – HWSETA Accredited

Duration: This is a one year qualification and can also be offered as a HWSETA skills programme

Purpose

Learners who complete this qualification:

  • will possess the competence required to perform community health functions under the supervision of a professional health worker and will add value to their jobs
  • will make the person more effective in his/her tasks and more employable and will open up job opportunites in related fields

Recipients of this qualification will be able to:

Carry out the roles within the context of:

  • the client’s home
  • a community care centre
  • the broader community

The qualification comprises 7 skills programmes

Programme 1: Numeracy skills
Programme 2: Literacy skills
Programme 3: Home based care
Programme 4: HIV and AIDS
Programme 5: Community development
Programme 6: Health and safety
Programme 7: Personal finance management

Learners who want to register for this qualication must have;

  •  Communications at ABET Level 3
  • Mathematical Literacy at ABET Level 2
  • Ability to undertake independent learning
  • Grade 10, 11 or 12

 

What is FLC

Foundational Learning Competence (FLC) is Mathematics and English at level 2 to 4. Its purpose is to remove barries to learning and progress in occupational pathways and skills at level 2 to 4. FLC can be done by anyone who does not have Matric with 33.3% in Maths and English and he/she want to study Occupational Quali cation – course that contains 70% practical and 30% theory.

International Students Requirements

1. International student who reside in South Africa must have student permit, workers permit or valid asylum

2. International student applying from their countries of origin must have i. 2 (two) certified copies of the valid passport ii. Pay stated full registration and deposit

3. All international student must have

ii. High school certificate equivalent to Matric with 33.3% in Maths and English or grade 10, 11 or 12 plus FLC

LEARNING PROCESS

Learners will be formatively assessed in theoretical studies on the basis of assignments, an individual and group project and as well as short test. Assignments, case studies, problem-solving techniques will assist with formative assessment. Learners will also be formatively assessed in real work environment on the basis of observation in natural setting; unobtrusive or planned. Behaviour and performance will be evaluated.

EXAMINATION

Upon completion of the training learners will be issued with a statement of results by the college AFTER assesment and moderation of POEs is done then HWSETA will verify the POE for certification.

CERTIFICATION

Learners who passed successfully complete their POE and are verified will be awarded FET Certificate: Ancillary Health Care by Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training HWSETA).
